Introduction
Kirtan Kriya: Meditative Path to Cognitive Excellence
Kirtan kriya is a specific form of mediation in which we have to continuously say the words Saa Taa Naa Maa(In this order). The sounds come from the mantra 'Sat Nam', which means "my true essence'. This practice of Kirtan kriya is over a thousand years old. It promotes mental balance, improve cognition and activate the part of the brain which is central to the memory. It is a part of Kundalini Yoga which derives from kundalini which is defined as energy that lies within the body, frequently at the navel or the base of the spine. Kundalini Yoga awake this dormant energy which helps us transform and expand consciousness.
Kirtan Kriya also known as SA TA NA MA Mediation and is the most important meditation in Kundalini Yoga. Clinical research has shown that practicing Kirtan Kriya just 12 min every day has shown to reduce stress, improve cognition and activate parts of the brain that are central to memory.
How to perform
Sit down with your spine straight while repeating the sound Saa Taa Naa Maa in this order. Focus on the energy flowing from top of your head and coming out of the center of your forehead. It gonna create a L like pattern, focus on that pattern every time you think or speak of the chant Saa Taa Naa Maa.
This is how your Finger movement should be like
1. On Saa, touch the index fingers of each hand to your thumbs.
2. On Taa, touch your middle fingers to your thumbs.
3. On Naa, touch your ring fingers to your thumbs.
4. On Maa, touch your little fingers to your thumbs.
